They are encouraged to try, praised for succeeding, and shown compassion, understanding and guidance when they fail. They learn to believe in themselves, and grow to understand that success comes from the willingness to learn from one's mistakes, and the courage to try again.
Like in any other family, household chores are shared. The girls do their own laundry, they help with the cooking, pick up after themselves, and keep their rooms clean. They are expected to do their homework, to get to school on time, and to be home by curfew.
Special occasions, birthdays and holidays are celebrated with all the usual fanfare. The girls are encouraged to invite their friends and families to visit and participate in the festivities.
Sometimes there are activities that the girls can participate in. During the fall the, the girls learned to stamp and make cards from local artists who brought interesting projects into the homes. This spring there are plans for expanding to scrapbooking and other craft projects.
